From the 25th November 2014 the national volunteering website Do-it will be changing. These changes will offer greater flexibility when it comes to managing the opportunities we currently post on your behalf, and will allow us to support more organisations across the district.
What will happen to your opportunities?
All of the opportunities you’re currently advertising with us, including any that have been advertised in the last 12 months will be transferred directly to the new system. If you have advertised an opportunity with us at any time in past year, one of our team will contact you over the next 8 weeks to ensure we have accurate and up to date information. It would be helpful if you could let us know about roles to be deactivated before 21st November 2014.
What does this mean for your organisation?
The organisation and opportunity data will be held on secure cloud-based servers, and the Do-it website will be more flexible and integrated with social media channels. It will also be optimised for use with mobile technology such as smartphones.
As part of the new website you will be able to add extra information to promote your organisation, such as adding logos and images to your profile and opportunities as well as links to your social media channels. If you have one, please send us a small version of your logo, suitable for uploading to the new site.
The new Do-it platform will also include an option for a Self-Serve facility. This means that organisations could choose to manage their own profile and data – for example, edit current opportunities posted on Do-it, post new opportunities, remove opportunities, and manage/process applications from volunteers. Rest assured that our Volunteer Centres will still be able to do all of this on your behalf if you prefer, and will support all organisations to maintain the quality of information on the Do-it website.
What will the service cost?
Our Volunteer Centre brokerage services and the Do-it website remain free of charge to all voluntary and community organisations.
What do you need to do?
Let us know if you wish to make any opportunities inactive before 21st November 2014. Talk to your local office if you have any concerns.
We want to make this transition as easy as possible, both for ourselves and the organisations we support. As well as a new system for you, this is a new system for us and we know that there will be lots of questions to answer in the first few weeks.
Once the new website goes live we will write to you again inviting you view your organisation’s profile and opportunity information. We will also let you know more about how the self-serve option will work for those that are interested. In order to ensure a smooth transition we are asking for organisations to wait until early January 2015 to register for the Self-Serve option.
Thank you for taking the time to read these details. We’re really excited about the new opportunities this system will provide and we look forward to working on it with you. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any queries.
