The Gainsborough Dementia Café launches on March 2nd at Marshall’s Sports Club Community Hall on Middlefield Lane from 10am – 12 noon and will then meet at the same time on every 1st Monday of the month. The town’s Singing for the Brain group launches at the same venue on March 12th from 1.30pm – 3.30pm and will then meet every 2nd Thursday.
There are about 1400 people living with dementia in West Lindsey*.
Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Cafes are free to attend and provide people with dementia and carers a platform to try out activities and talk openly about living with dementia within a relaxed and informal environment.
Meanwhile, Alzheimer’s Society Singing for the Brain sees specially trained facilitators deliver a varied programme of vocal, rhythmic and gentle physical exercise along with songs from different eras and styles.
Phil Measures, Alzheimer’s Society Peer Support Group Manager in Lincolnshire said:
“Dementia is a huge challenge facing Lincolnshire but we believe that these Dementia Cafés and the Singing for the Brain Group in West Lindsay will make a real difference locally and will help people to live well with the condition. The groups will be run by Alzheimer’s Society staff and volunteers and will provide an opportunity for people to socialise and get much needed face to face support. I’m particularly excited about the arrival of Singing for the Brain, which a really stimulating and fun activity which can enhance the wellbeing of people affected by memory problems. We’d love to see you there! ”
The charity is launching a number of other groups in the county throughout February and March.
