Grants are available to fund research interventions outside the NHS aimed at improving public health and reducing health inequalities. The programme is multidisciplinary and broad and it will cover the range of public health interventions, from social marketing for the promotion of safer sex, to speed humps for the prevention of road traffic accidents.
The Fund is worth £10 million per year.
Primary research projects are likely to range from the small (lasting 12 months and costing less than £500,000 in all) to the large (several years and more than £1 million).
The budget of the Programme will enable it to fund single large studies of national or international importance that would be beyond the capacity of other funders.
Deadline for applications is 1pm on 5 December 2016.
