Ready for the changes to Data Protection?

The law relating to protecting people’s personal information is changing and all organisations need to be ready.  The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will come into force in the UK in May, requiring all organisations that handle personal data (information that identifies living individuals) to make some changes to ensure they understand and communicate their ‘lawful basis’ for handling personal data.  Organisations must also consider the impact of:

  • New rights for individuals
  • Tighter requirements on consent to the use of personal data
  • The impact of technology on data security

Voluntary Centre Services is running a series of events focusing on GDPR and it’s implications for charities and small community groups.  Whatever your role in the community, GDPR is something that organisations of all sizes need to be aware of, so come along to one of our events and find out more about the latest guidance and resources that can help you get to grips with the changes:

Voluntary & Community Forum, Thursday 15th March, Sleaford – 10.00 – 1.00

This free networking event will focus on GDPR, with an overview of the key changes, some practical steps that organisations need to take, plus time for discussion.  The Forum is a networking event for community groups and anyone active in their community, and includes time to share your news, funding, projects and events with other attendees over lunch. Book your place online or call 01529 308450.

Data Protection & GDPR workshops (fees apply, free for volunteers)
Thursday 1st March, Gainsborough – 10.00 – 12.30
Friday 16 March, Lincoln – 10.00 – 12:30

The workshop is designed to give a practical overview of an organisation’s responsibilities when it comes to collecting, using and storing people’s personal information. We’ll be looking at the main principles of data protection and exploring the changes that the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will mean. The session will round off by suggesting some practical actions that organisations can take to help you feel confident that you are able to meet the GDPR requirements. This session is aimed at those who can implement change within their organisation.
