The British & Foreign School Society (BFSS) provides grants to organisations with UK charitable status for educational activities.
The funding is intended to support charitable organisations that reach out to children and young people in remote or impoverished areas, improving inclusivity in education and providing much-needed facilities. Funding is project based for the purpose of advancing educational opportunity.
The Society no longer makes grants for individuals.
Around £700,000 is given in grants each year. Funding is at the discretion of the BFSS, and there is no minimum or maximum level of funding.
There are three funding rounds each year. The deadlines for applications are:
- Round 1 – 18 December 2017 for consideration at the February 2018 grants committee meeting.
- Round 2 – 9 April 2018 for consideration at the May 2018 grants committee meeting.
- Round 3 – 27 August 2018 for consideration at the October 2018 grants committee meeting.
The Society is particularly interested in applications that can demonstrate match funding or a contribution in kind.
