Helen started working for Voluntary Centre Services in 2006. She initially worked on a community economic development project, running an employability course that encouraged people to think about self-employment as a route out of unemployment. Helen has taken on the shared role of Compliance Officer and Finance Officer with Julie.
She subsequently become a valued member of the Volunteer Centre team, providing data analysis for the DWP/ BTCV project, supporting unemployed people into work through gaining transferable skills from volunteering. After returning from maternity leave, she moved into VCS’s community development services. This involved supporting small groups across the City of Lincoln with various needs, including starting up, providing help with writing constitutions, strategic and business planning and guiding and supporting management committees.
More recently, Helen has built on this experience by working on the ERDF-funded Business Support Programme running in Lincoln. This has seen her supporting businesses, charities and social enterprises grow within the voluntary and community sector. Helen is a PTTLS-qualified trainer, developing and delivering training and update session for groups on DBS checks, for which she is also an authorised counter-signatory.
Before joining Voluntary Centre services, Helen gained an Honours degree in English from the University of Lincoln and helped manage a retail concession, responsible for supervising and training a small staff team, stock control, financial reporting and managing sales targets. Helen has enjoyed volunteering in the past but is currently kept busy by her 3 small children, doing up her house and caravan, and her garden.
